Northern Territory State Nomination Requirements for Skilled Migrants

Northern Territory (NT) is located in the top part of Australia and it is famous for its enviable laidback lifestyle, amazing weather, rich culture, and excellent career opportunities. With a rapidly growing economy, industries and major developments, NT is in need of skilled migrant to support this rapid growth, thereby offering multiple opportunities for migrant to settle in NT through the state nomination.

There are three key programs through which skilled migrants can seek state nomination:

  1. General Skilled Migration Visas (Subclass 491 & Subclass 190)
These 2 visa streams are designed for skilled migrants under 45 years old, proficient in English, and scoring 65 or higher on the skilled migration points test. Subclass 190 visas are typically granted to onshore applicants who have studied and/or reside in the Northern Territory (NT). Offshore applicants are usually nominated for a Subclass 491 visa.
  2. Northern Territory Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA)The Northern Territory Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA) is an employer-sponsored visa program currently extended until December 13, 2024. Exclusively available in the NT, this program addresses current and anticipated labour market shortages in the region. DAMA allows NT employers to sponsor workers for the Temporary Skill Shortage subclass 482 visa, Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) subclass 494 visa, and Permanent Employer Nomination Scheme subclass 186 visa. Each visa category has specific requirements, and sponsoring businesses must meet designated criteria. For personalized guidance on your pathway, please contact us directly.
  3. Migration InnovationNorthern Territory (MINT) Program
The MINT Program is a NT government supported initiative to assist overseas skilled migrants to obtain the NT Government nomination. It is exclusively offered to skilled migrants who have not studied, worked, and lived in Australia (other than NT) in the past 5 years (except for travelling). This MINT program can only be applied directly through Paspalis or through an approved migration panel agent which our MARA agent is a part of. Go to our dedicated MINT program page to learn more.
