For students interested in social media, content creation, advertising, branding or understanding why people choose certain products, marketing can offer a flexible career across almost every industry.

But studying marketing in Australia does not necessarily mean starting with three years directly at university.

Through TAFE SA’s University Packaged Program, international students can begin with a practical Diploma of Marketing and Communication at TAFE SA before progressing directly into the Bachelor of Business majoring in Marketing at Adelaide University.

This pathway allows students to gain practical marketing skills first, graduate with two qualifications and potentially save tens of thousands of dollars in tuition fees.

A Smarter Pathway to a Marketing Degree

Instead of enrolling directly into a three-year university degree, students can complete their first year through TAFE SA before progressing into Adelaide University.

The complete pathway can still be finished in three years:

  • Year 1: Diploma of Marketing and Communication at TAFE SA (CRICOS 109109D; National Code BSB50620)
  • Years 2–3: Bachelor of Business majoring in Marketing at Adelaide University (CRICOS 115682B)

After successfully completing the Diploma, students receive 48 credit points towards the Adelaide University degree, equivalent to the first year of the three-year Bachelor of Business.

Students can also receive a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) for both stages upfront, allowing the packaged pathway to be included in one student visa application.

At the end of the pathway, students graduate with two separate qualifications:

  • Diploma of Marketing and Communication from TAFE SA
  • Bachelor of Business majoring in Marketing from Adelaide University

Why Choose the TAFE SA Marketing Pathway?

1. Start With Practical Marketing Skills

Marketing employers often look for more than just a university qualification.

They want graduates who can create content, understand digital platforms, analyse audiences, contribute to campaigns and communicate ideas clearly.

During the Diploma of Marketing and Communication, students develop practical skills across areas including:

  • Marketing and communication planning
  • Consumer behaviour
  • Content creation
  • Social media marketing
  • Digital media
  • Advertising campaigns
  • Digital marketing and AI tools

Students also work with practical workplace scenarios and simulated business activities, helping them understand how marketing is applied in a real working environment.

This allows students to build practical skills from their first year before progressing into the more advanced business and marketing concepts covered at university.

2. Graduate With Two Qualifications

Instead of graduating with only a bachelor degree, students completing the packaged pathway receive both a TAFE SA Diploma and an Adelaide University Bachelor degree.

This gives students a combination of practical vocational training and university-level education that can help strengthen their profile when entering the workforce.

3. Progress Into a Globally Ranked University

After completing the Diploma, students progress directly into the remaining two years of the Bachelor of Business majoring in Marketing at Adelaide University.

Adelaide University is a member of Australia’s Group of Eight and is ranked 79th globally in the 2027 QS World University Rankings.

Students can therefore start their studies in TAFE SA’s practical learning environment while still graduating with a globally recognised university degree.

4. Save As Much As AUD $35,000 in Tuition Fees*

The packaged pathway can also be significantly more affordable than completing all three years directly at university.

TAFE SA’s published 2026 tuition fee for the Diploma of Marketing and Communication is AUD $15,760. After completing the Diploma, students receive one year of credit towards the Adelaide University degree and only need to complete the remaining two years at university.

Based on currently published course fees, students may save more than AUD $34,000 compared with completing all three years directly at Adelaide University.

This means students can:

  • Complete their studies in approximately the same overall timeframe
  • Graduate with two qualifications
  • Gain practical marketing training from their first year
  • Progress into a globally ranked university
  • Save tens of thousands of dollars in tuition fees

For students and families planning the overall cost of studying overseas, this can make a significant difference.

Why Study Marketing in Australia?

Marketing has developed far beyond traditional advertising.

As businesses continue to invest in their online presence, skills across social media, content creation, paid advertising, email marketing, e-commerce, data analytics and artificial intelligence are becoming increasingly valuable.

A marketing qualification can lead to opportunities across areas such as:

  • Digital marketing
  • Social media management
  • Content creation
  • Search engine optimisation
  • Paid advertising
  • Email and customer relationship marketing
  • E-commerce
  • Brand management
  • Market research
  • Communications and public relations

One of the advantages of marketing is its flexibility. Almost every organisation needs to attract customers, communicate its value and grow its brand, allowing marketing professionals to work across industries ranging from technology and tourism to education, healthcare, retail and professional services.

Jobs and Skills Australia reports that approximately 103,100 Advertising and Marketing Professionals are currently employed across Australia, with annual employment growth of around 3,000 workers.

Can Studying Marketing Lead to PR in Australia?

Studying marketing does not automatically guarantee permanent residency in Australia.

However, Marketing Specialist is a recognised skilled occupation under ANZSCO 225113 and is currently included on Australia’s Core Skills Occupation List. This means that potential skilled or employer-sponsored pathways may be available to eligible marketing professionals.

A possible study-to-migration pathway may look like this:

  • 1

Complete a Bachelor of Business majoring in Marketing.

  • 2

Apply for a Temporary Graduate visa after graduation, subject to eligibility.

  • 3

Build relevant professional marketing experience in Australia.

  • 4

Complete a skills assessment through VETASSESS.

  • 5

Explore eligible state-nominated, regional or employer-sponsored visa pathways.

Marketing Specialist is assessed by VETASSESS as a Group B occupation. Applicants with a highly relevant bachelor degree will generally need at least one year of relevant post-qualification employment for a positive skills assessment.

Marketing can be a competitive migration pathway, so students should not choose the course based on PR alone. However, students who genuinely enjoy marketing and plan their studies, employment and migration pathway early may be in a stronger position to explore the opportunities available after graduation.

Is This Pathway Right for You?

The TAFE SA marketing pathway may be suitable if you:

  • Are creative and enjoy developing new ideas
  • Are interested in social media, content or digital marketing
  • Want a flexible career that applies across different industries
  • Prefer practical learning instead of focusing only on theory
  • Want to graduate with both a Diploma and bachelor degree
  • Want a direct pathway into a globally ranked university
  • Are looking for a more affordable way to study marketing in Australia

For students finishing Year 11, A Levels or an equivalent qualification, choosing the right study pathway can make a significant difference to both your university experience and overall study costs.

Starting at TAFE SA provides an alternative to going directly into university, allowing students to develop practical skills first, earn an additional qualification and potentially reduce the overall cost of completing their marketing degree.
